Maria Economides (b. 1980, Thessaloniki, Greece) is a ceramic artist whose work explores the emotional depth of human experience through hand-built vessels. Initially trained in business administration to manage her family’s timber trade, she discovered her passion for ceramics after moving to Athens in 2018, following eight years in Shanghai. Her practice, inspired by the idea of vessels as containers of emotions and memories, combines ancient techniques such as terra sigillata with contemporary innovations, including high-firing and intricate clay coloring.

Economides’ handcrafted ceramics have gained international recognition, with her work represented at the Van Gogh Foundation in Arles, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Cycladic Museum in Athens. She has also collaborated with the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology in Athens. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Milan Design Week (2021), Art Athina (2022), London Craft Week (2023), and Vima Art Fair (2025). In 2023, she held her first solo exhibition in Paris at La Boulangerie, solidifying her presence in the global ceramics scene.
