Salma Barakat is an Egyptian/Greek artist who works with Egyptian artisans to translate her designs into woven-art, wall-hangings and rugs.
She practices under the name 'Ba', inspired by the Ancient Egyptian notion of spiritual movement or one's unique personality carried across worlds. Her visual style comprises of organic movements drawn from nature's rhythmic patterns.
The atelier she collaborates with is run by a charity organisation in a village outside of Cairo that ensures skills-training to underprivileged women and a security of regular income to support their households.
The pieces produced are either limited edition or one-of-a-kind artwork, with Salma's signature emblem woven in.
